Zero-carbon flame technology - Hycut hydrogen cutting

2024-09-06

Messer has recently launched Hycut hydrogen cutting technology. It is a unique and innovative oxyhydrogen flame technology that replaces conventional hydrocarbon gases such as acetylene, propane and natural gas with hydrogen for oxy-flame cutting, brazing welding, flame straightening, heating, and other industrial production processes that require oxy-flame.

The biggest advantage of Hycut is that it meets the industrial demand for zero-carbon emission production.

Compared with traditional hydrocarbon gas technology, hydrogen cutting technology has the following advantages:

1.Zero carbon emissions.
Hydrogen does not contain carbon atoms, and its combustion process does not produce any carbon dioxide emissions. The only combustion product is pure water.

2.More environmentally friendly.
The CO, nitrogen oxides and dust emissions produced by hydrogen cutting flames are much lower than those of traditional hydrocarbon fuel gases, making them more environmentally friendly.

3.Healthier working environment.
The noise of hydrogen cutting flame is much lower than that of acetylene flame, making it a quieter flame.

4.Stronger performance.
The total calorific value of hydrogen reaches 141.8 MJ/kg, which is the highest combustion calorific value among all gases, and the heat output is highly concentrated. The maximum temperature of hydrogen cutting flame is up to 3080℃, the highest among all gases. Therefore, hydrogen cutting can achieve faster preheating and cutting speed, more efficient flame correction and heating than traditional gases.

5.More convenient operation.
Different from hydrocarbon gas, hydrogen cutting flame does not emit dazzling bright blue light, but appears translucent. Therefore, the operator can directly observe the color change of the heated part of the steel plate with the naked eye and judge the heating temperature, which greatly facilitates the operation.

6.Safer.
Firstly, the lower explosion limit of hydrogen is 2~3 times higher than that of acetylene and propane, so it is more difficult to explode.
Secondly, the density of hydrogen is extremely small. If a leak occurs, hydrogen will immediately spread to the top and the surroundings, and it is difficult to gather and cause an explosion.
Thirdly, hydrogen is a compressed gas, which is stored in a container in the form of high-pressure gas and can be released in large quantities in a very short time for combustion. This is completely different from liquefied gases such as acetylene and propane that need to be vaporized to be output. Therefore, the probability of flashback of hydrogen cutting flames is extremely low.

In summary, hydrogen cutting technology has become the performance king of oxygen flame cutting, brazing welding, flame straightening and heating production.
